Reiki & Sound Healing
Basic Definition of Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes health restoration. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy.” It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy, and it is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free-flowing. When this is true, a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked, it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.
Benefits of Reiki
Anyone can benefit from a Reiki session. Reiki is effective for physical and mental relaxation, stress reduction, and increasing one’s sense of vitality. Clients of Reiki typically report experiencing a relaxation response and often report an increased sense of well-being and peace. Many have reported that Reiki may help with stress, low energy, sleep trouble, upset stomach, or other minor symptoms. Reiki also may help with releasing anger, fear, worry, sadness, and other unhealthy feelings, and may replace them with self-worth, confidence and tranquility. Although many experience a sense of relaxation in a Reiki session, occasionally, some may experience agitation, stimulation, or nervousness that can be perceived as negative side effects; however, this is your body adjusting to the movement of energy. Please let your Reiki practitioner know if you experience this during or after your Reiki session
Basic Definition of Sound Healing
A therapeutic practice that uses sound frequencies and vibrations (such as singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks, or chimes) to promote relaxation, balance, and healing in the body and mind. Sound Bath is a one-on-one (up to two people) experience where participants lie down and are immersed in soothing sounds from sound bowls (gongs, drums and other instruments). Guided Sound Meditation is combination of meditation and sound therapy, where a facilitator leads participants through a meditative journey while incorporating sound elements to deepen relaxation and awareness. This can be in a group environment or one on one.
Benefits of Sound Healing, Sound Baths, and Guided Sound Meditation
Reduces Stress & Anxiety – The soothing frequencies calm the nervous system, lowering cortisol levels and promoting relaxation. Enhances Mental Clarity & Focus – The vibrations help clear mental fog, improve concentration, and support mindfulness. Promotes Deep Relaxation – The rhythmic sounds guide the brain into alpha and theta brainwave states, associated with deep relaxation and meditation. Supports Emotional Healing – Sound frequencies help release suppressed emotions, promote emotional balance, and reduce feelings of overwhelm. Improves Sleep Quality – By lowering stress levels and calming the mind, sound therapy can lead to deeper and more restful sleep. Balances Energy & Chakras – Many sound healing practices are aligned with chakra balancing, helping to remove energetic blockages in the body. Relieves Physical Pain & Tension – The vibrations can stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, and alleviate muscle tension or chronic pain. Enhances Spiritual Connection – Many people find sound healing deepens their meditation practice, increasing their sense of inner peace and connection.
Description of a Reiki and Sound Healing Session
The session will begin with a discussion that will take place with the Reiki/Sound Healer Practitioner. The Practitioner will describe the session to the client, give the client an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues they are experiencing, and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session. For the actual session, the client will rest comfortably on a massage table or yoga mat with their shoes removed.
Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed and a client is always fully clothed; loose, comfortable, and organic fabric is suggested, please come with minimal to no jeweller/belts or other metals as this will be asked to be removed.
During a Reiki session can either be hands-on, where the Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. If a client prefers not to be touched, they can indicate this to the practitioner before they begin. The session will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at the person’s head or feet. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation.
The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating. During sound healing the bowls may come in contact with the body but also can be requested not to. During Sound Healing (sound bath and guided sound meditation) you will hear a variety of sounds along with vibrations.
Both Reiki and Sound Healing can bring up an array of emotions on all spectrums, you also may fall asleep due to being in a relaxed state. If you do fall asleep the practitioner will gently wake you when session is over, you will still receive the benefits of the session if you do fall asleep, sound healing can elevate your rest cycle!
